David Jones - 01/31 Not Alone Training

Thursday at the Sweetwater Creek training facility. We had just about half of Team Plumb Crazy out for a good run today. Don, Robb, Austin, Richard and myself hit the red to blue to white trail. A good, tough 4.5 mile run with a long steep hill near the end. Had a good run by all. I am sure we will be ready come August. Next run for me is an 8 miler on Sunday.

Alone at Sweetwater

Ran Sweetwater yellow trail by myself (you remember it, John?) and the blacktop today.
Really didn't pay attention to time, just trying to pace myself and change up my speed.
Pretty good run, but the wind was ripping at me and I'm a total woose when it comes to cold weather.
Tomorrow's a day off for me.
Austin and I will hit the trails Thursday and Friday since it'll be the last couple of days he'll be at SMI corporate before heading on to greener pastures. Don't think you're getting off easy, bud.
We'll be hooking up at least twice a week at Stone Mountain Park!

GO TPC!!!!

Another early morning -- John

Again, up early at the Y. Raining very hard here, and a bit chilly. Again, no excuses, but I had severe asthma my first 18 years of life or so. I have outgrown it, except for one thing -- running in cold weather - so my options are somewhat limited during the winter months. With that said, went 40 minutes on the eliptycal (sp?) today. I always put it on severe hills, at a strong resistance. Kicked my butt towards the end, but finished strong. Went 6.7 miles. I do hope it translates to outdoors, when the time comes. It is great to see everyone giving it hell, starting this training early, and taking it serious. We all will become better friends and teammates when we do this crazy ass thing in Oregon -- but I for one am pumped to give it everything I can with you guys! Just bought a new pair of Saucony's -- greatest shoes I have ever worn. I am never taking them off.

One last thing -- if there is someone who we feel, or says, that they are not going to be able to compete, I have found a great replacement. Brent Hodges, Corporate PA for Kenny Pipe, has been a runner his whole life. He recently just ran 9 miles, training for the upcoming Music City 1/2 Marathon. He said he would consider it if we asked.

Let's GO!

Camp TPC

Austin and I ran Sunday at Stone Mountain Park.

Pretty good run for Austin, going the furthest yet without having to stop.

5.4 miles at 49:33

I was feeling really good about my run as well, pushing through a mental hurdle I have had for over a year now involving a large hill. Sunday I showed it who was boss.

I know I could have gone around the mountain twice but had to stop for other reasons.

Monday Austin and I hit Sweetwater for phase two of TPC Camp. We ran the red-blue-white trail in 48:25, Austin's second best run on that course. Great weather.

I think I'm going to try to catch up with Jonesy and see if I can go further, faster.

Training Don Keller 1/28

I ran with Cary at Sweetwater today. I ran 2.533 miles in 25:08, 9:55 pace.

Running two days straight took it's toll on my knees. but, I couldn't pass up running today since the weather was so nice. I'll rest tomorrow and try again on Wednesday.

Training Don Keller 1/27

Ran on Sunday 3.1 miles in 29.60 minutes around my neighborhood. It was a hard run so I think I'll keep running at sweetwater. Seams to be a little easier on me.

David - You are the man! Great Job and Happy Birthday!!

David Jones - 1/27 Long Run # 3

Sunday aftenoon.... finally a nice warm sunny day for running in Atlanta. Hope everyone was able to get a good run in. Felt good to run in shorts again without having to wear hat and gloves. Sunday is my long run day so I put in 8 miles Sunday on my neighborhood course. This is my third time running my 8 mile loop and I knocked off 4 minutes from my previous best time. Today's run was 1 hour, 10 minutes. Felt really good. I was a lot more careful about what I ate before I ran this time. I think that helped. Feel like my runing is getting stronger each time I go out. Made the 8 miles without walking any and was even able to sprint the last hundred yards or so.

5 weeks until 1/2 marathon!!!

Cooper river Bridge

I remembered how hard it was to run the Cooper River Bridge when I was half way up the damn thing this week. It was a good 3 mile run and a great view (a little chilly). My running schedule has me at 4 miles this Sunday. Should not be a problem but, it is to cold to run outside. I get bored on the treadmill after about 20 minutes. My main goal is my weight for January. I need to be at 210 by the end of the month. I was at 213 before I came to Charleston. No BEER this weekend only wine.

Go Plumbcrazy!!

David Jones -1/24 Speed Training

Thursday's run was a little different than my normal 4 - 5 mile easy jog. Thursday's are my day to work on speed. My program calls for a warm up 1 mile run and then a fast as you can go sprint for 1600 meters. I think that is about a 1/2 mile. Then an 800 meter walk and then another 1600 meter sprint followed by another 800 meter walk. Then a cool down 1 mile jog. It has been about 30 years since I ran as fast as I can go. I can tell I really worked some leg muscles I haven't used in a long time. Pretty sore legs today. Running fast really feels different than just jogging around. I guess this is supposed to help me increase my MPM times. Next run will be another 8 miler on Sunday.

H2C leg assigments to follow soon. Thanks to John Wood for doing some good hill training. Lot's of hills in Oregon.

Austin & Robb TPC/Sweetwater Training

Robb & I went to Sweetwater Park for a little trail running on Wed. and it went pretty well. We ran about 4.5 miles in just under 50 min. Doesn't seem very fast, but there are some parts of the trail that if your not careful and don't take your time you could hurt yourself. Anyway as you already know my first run in a while was at Stone Mountain a few weeks ago with Robb and it's about 5.4 miles around it. We did that in about 54 min. which seemed pretty good for my first run in about month. Of course I could barely walk for 3 or 4 days, but then the following Sunday we ran it again and knocked off a whole 5 min. and got around the mountain in about 48-49 min. that's about a 9 min mile so I was pretty pumped about it. Next run will be Sunday at Stone Mountain if anyone wants to meet up with me and trainer Robb let us know. Go team crazy! Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Don Keller - Training 1/23

Ran at Sweetwater Park with Cary today.

I ran 3.308 miles in 32:16. A 9:45 pace. I felt really good and ran a lot of hills.

Pray for warm weather (global warming is what i think we call it now)... oh yea, and world peace, cure for HIV, end world hunger and a boom in housing starts mainly in the southeast.

David Jones - 1/20 Training

Tuesday is my easy day on the training program. Just 3 miles at an easy pace. Too cold and rainy outside last night so I did it on the treadmill. Speed training on the schedule for tomorrow.

Hope everyone got the H2C newsletter yeterday.

John Wood

Was at the Y this morning at 5:15. Amazing to me that it does not matter how early I get there, there are at least 50 cars already in the parking lot. Much better work out today - ran 37 minutes, plus did many other things. I always to make sure and incorporate hills on the tread mill, so that does help. With the way my lungs are, I just cannot run outside during cold days, so inside will have to suffice. I will begin my outdoor work outs sometime in early spring, or if weather permits sometime this winter. I will be back there in the morning, giving it hell!

LET'S GO EVERYONE!

David Jones - 1/20 Training

Well it was another Sunday. My day for the long run of the week. I did not plan this one to well. I went to Chili's after church and got a big bowl of chili. My son didn't want his corn dog so I ate that too. Plus a bunch of fries and a few ribs. Not a good lunch to have on the day of the big run. I was planning on running around 4:00 but wife got called into work so I had to run around 2:00. Plus it was about 25 degrees when I started. Needless to say this run was a struggle. My legs felt good and my lungs felt good but my stomach was really churning. Thought I was going to see that chili again. I had to walk a couple of time for a total of about 3 minutes of walking. I managed to get my 8 miles in in 1 hour and 15 minutes. Now I just have a easy run on Tuesday and my speed workout on Thursday. 6 weeks to 1/2 marathon.

Sometime in the next week or so the Hood to Coast race committe will review the legs and start assigning legs so you can start training for the kind of run you will have in Oregon.

Tough morning

Ran inside today, on treadmill. Way to cold in Nashville to try outside. Tough run this morning. Only made it 30 minutes, but did run over 3.5 miles. I know as everyone else that a treadmill is acceptable, but not nearly as difficult as the real thing. Will be back there in the early am tomorrow, giving it hell. Impressed with Mr. Ramsey -- late night on Thursday in the A, and he made it downstairs to the gym on Friday before Toto sales meetings. Very impressive!

Hopefully will get legs back tomorrow -- I will keep everyone posted

John

Running in Philly

Flew out before the snow hit Atlanta to Philadelphia for the annual Quaker B Ball Game and Pat's Cheese Steak feast. While in school, I would run up through Drexel, over the Schuylkill River, past the side of the Philadelphia Art Museum and alongside the famous Boat Houses by the river. Today's A Train flight must have been taken me through time travel as I suited up and did this route along with a run down and then back up the famous Rocky Steps. I was certainly going slowly but nevertheless I ran 65 minutes non stop. Youth has been regained. Rocky would have been proud!

Now, if only the Quakers can beat the St. Joes Hawks tonight. I've already eaten a Pat's Pizza Steak for lunch and will be back for round two around midnight.

Maybe, I should have run at a faster pace?

Don Keller 1/18

Ran with "Speedy Dave" at Sweetwater today. We ran from the parking lot to the loop and ran the loop 3 times. That's about 2.33 miles and is a little shorter than we first thought.

Today's stats: 2.33 miles in 21:56, pace was 9'24".

As soon as we get a break in the weather I'll do a long run. I would like to try to run for an hour and get in 5 to 6 miles. Pray for sunshine and warmer weather.

David Jones - 01/17 Training

Still sticking with the program. Yesterdays Runner's World workout called for a 5 mile run. A 1 mile warm up and 3 miles at a 8:15 pace and a 1 mile cool down. I did't get to run until about 9:45 last night. It was hard to get up off the couch and go run in the cold. Ran a pretty easy 1 mile first and tried to kick it in gear for 3 miles. Next 3 miles were 8:16, 8:22 and 8:38. My cool down mile was pretty much all down hill and I was feeling pretty good so I ran it in 8:06. More snow is forecast for tomorrow so I need to get my easy run for the week in today. Got another 8 mile run scheduled for Sunday.

Back up runner for PlumbCrazy!!

I would like to take this time to welcome the newest edition to the Plumb Crazy Crew! Miss Nevaeh Elizabeth Sandoval will be joining our team and filling the spot of the first chump to drop out of the race.

At 7lbs 9oz and 19" of height, I know no other team member with her stamina and endurance. She has the potential to post times that we can only dream about. If there are any objections with this induction, she prefers to handle them individually and personally one by one.

Training - Don Keller 1/15

Ran with David "8 mile" Jones at Sweetwater on Tuesday. Stayed on the blacktop and ran the loop 3 times. The distance is estimated to be about 2.6 miles and I ran it 20:28. It's probably the fast pace I've ran to date and I'm looking forward to running it again with my GPS to confirm the number of miles.

It's starting to get cold out.

David Jones - 01/13/08 - Long Run

My official half marathon training progam kcked off last night. I now have 7 weeks to get ready for the Alpharetta 1/2 Marathon. My training program from Runners World said I need to do one long run per week. Sundays are going to be my long run days. Last night I put in an 8 mile run. That is 2 miles farther than I have ever run. I actually felt pretty good for the whole run. My time for 8 miles was 1 hour and 14 minutes. After 3 miles I started feeling a little sluggish but the farther I went the better I seemed to feel. I told myself just get to 6 miles and then walk a little. I felt pretty strong at 6 so I went to 7 and once I got to 7 I knew I could make 8.
After that run I feel like I will be ready to go the distance by March 2nd.

I spoke to Hood to Coast people and they should have our team roster loaded on the website by early this week. Not sure when they will give us a starting time. I will just have to keep checking the website.

Game On!

Ran in the "Around Peachtree Battle 5K" this morning. My goal was to break 31:00; my hope was to break 30:00. Came in at 29:25!!! Two minutes faster than my last race and 5 minutes faster than the Va-Highlands 5K. If the race was not "accredited", I would think that the distance was not right. There were even three different hills in the course.

I also got the names of two new remodling contractors in this older beautiful section of Atlanta.

BTW - knees are feeling better!

David Jones - 1/10 Training

Had a good run today. Looks like it might rain tomorrow in Atlanta so I got 4 miles in today at the Sweetwater Creek - Hood to Coast training facility. Had my best 4 mile time to date - 34:10. 8-1/2 minute miles. Yahoo!!!!!

I went on www.runnersworld.com and set up a 7 week training program to train for a 1/2 marathon on March 2nd. Going to be a tough 7 weeks.

Saw Austin running the trails today at the training facility. Way to go Austin.

Who else ran today?

Greetings from Port Charlotte, FL

Tom and I arrived at the Hampton Inn right of I75. I wonder if I will have stayed at every Hampton Inn in Florida before I retire...I sure hope not. After getting directions from the front desk, we went to a park next to the bay and and ran over a bridge that they said was 1 mile long. Well either the bridge is quite a bit longer than 1 mile or both us ran extremely slow, but I did run to the other end and back and Tom, "The Kenyan", did two trips over the bridge. The sun was settting over the bay, the IPOD Shuffle was hitting great songs and the run was fun. For some reason my lower back is still stiff, but not enough to keep me from running.

I am a definite for the the 5K Around Peachtree Battle Run this Saturday if anyone would like to run past older homes that are very expensive.

Here is the info:
http://www.rungeorgia.com/ptreebattle5k.html

I am also working on improving my pre and post stretching.

Jones / Keller Training 1/9

My first time running during lunch at Sweetwater State park. DJ took me out and showed me the ropes. I ran 3.006 miles in 31:15 that's an average pace of 10'23". David ran further and fast than I was able. We started at at about a 9'00" pace and that is a little fast than what I normally run. I was good to push myself some even though I didn't keep up the pace my entire run.

Thanks Dave - had fun running with you.

Sunday, Monday, Tuesday

Sunday morning Austin and I ran Stone Mountain Park.
(By the way, I run almost every Sunday at SMP so if anyone wants to join me please do!)
This was Austin's first run in a month and he actually did much better than I would have with so much time between runs.
We ran 5.4 miles
Pretty good all things considered.

Monday afternoon I went to Sweetwater and had a pretty good run; overall very happy with my performance.

Tuesday afternoon did the same. It wasn't quite as long of a run but I varied it up re: track and speed. Still a good run.

I plan to run tomorrow as well, weather permitting.

David turned me on to a website, compliments of Tim Ramsey.

It totally rocks!

David Jones - 2008 Under Way - 01/07/08

2008 is upon us and time to get serious about this running business. I have a few training runs to update. Didn't feel much like running Saturday so only did 2.5 miles. Time was 22:09. Felt pretty motivated on Sunday and got in a 5 mile run in 42:35. Went to Sweetwater Creek today and put in 4 miles in35:39. Legs feel pretty tired today. Might have to take tomorrow off. Been averageing about 8-3/4 minutes per mile. Not too worried about time right now but I want to get comfortable running some 6 - 7 mile runs.

8 months until Oregon. Go team Plumb Crazy!!

Training - Don Keller Jan 6

Did a little run walk routine today. Ran 2.038 miles in 20:18 minutes. Average Pace was 9'57".

It was so nice outside I walked 1.5 miles after my run.

Someone inspire me with a 6 or 8 mile run today.

Ran 2-1/2 miles today.

That's all I have to say about that.

After Holiday Run 1/4/08

It seems I lost some of my motivation over the holidays. Spent a week in Phoenix laying around eating cookies and candy all day. I come back to Atlanta 5 pounds heavier and see that the Atlanta members of Team Plumb Crazy have been entering some races around town. That's all I needed to see to get me back on track. Went for a 4 mile run today and felt pretty rough. My time was 35:31 so that is about where it has been for 4 miles. I am going to try and start getting a least one 6 mile run in every week. I have almost talked myself into signing up for a 1/2 marathon in March. Still undecided if I will be ready for something like that in 2 months. Maybe I will go ahead and sign up so that I have a goal to work for until March.

Keep hitting the pavement out there!!!

Inconsistency

After a horrible run last Friday with Tom and Jody, I had a pretty good one at Stone Mountain Park Saturday afternoon, running 6 miles at 48:02 minutes.
My concern is my lack of consistency in running times.
My energy level varies and I need to get a grip on that.

Ran on the treadmill Sunday and Monday with times between 7.75 and 8.00 minutes.
Tuesday morning I got up about 5:00 a.m. and ran with my new headlamp (thanks RG!) around the neighborhood for about 30 minutes. I figure it's just a matter of time before someone calls the cops on me as some sort of peeping Tom so I'm carrying my I.D. now. Another crummy performance.

COLD is my enemy.

Robb

Running in 08

Yes, Ramsey is on the board running in 08. To cold to run outside today so, I hit the treadmill and the weights in the gym. I got the rest of News Year's Eve out of me!!! It was a hard 2 miles but, worth it!!! I weighed in this morning at 220!!@*@&#*@

Richard, I to must give up the hard liquor. BUT, I can't give up a few BEERS a week. (see you next week John)

My son told me today at dinner I am not dieting it is a "lifestyle change". It is amazing what a 5th grader can say that makes such good sense. (sometimes) My goals for January is lose 10 lbs. and run 3 miles in under 30.

Go TeamPlumbCrazy!!!!

Sandovals Post ATC-Runs 1&2 of 2008

Well teamates, its was a wonderful day for those that showed up for the ATC 5k/10k. All I want to know is, where were the rest of Plumb Crazy? Even despite a horrid loss for Ga Tech, Goldsmith still showed with a belly full of choclate deserts. To make matters worse, the temperature was around 50 degrees and windy and Tom didn't hesitate to wear his wifes shorts. Now that's dedication! You will notice the numbers that we are wearing which designate the run we chose.
I had a personel goal to finish the race in 24 minutes. Well, I didn't reach my goal. I did however finish in 26:52. I'm not sure of the exact distance of a 5k, but I'm pretty happy with that. Tom ran the 10k in 44+ minutes. We know who our #1 seed is of the team. Sorry I didn't have my mouth wide open in my finishing picture Richard...

My new years resolution is to be at 7 minute miles by the time we begin that horrible 196 mile relay. Also, I will be dieting constantly and working out 4 days week along with my running. I went to the gym today and did triceps and chest. After that I finished up with a breif 2 mile run in 19 minutes. Not my best time, but I took it easy after the race yesterday.

Lets keep it going Team Plumb Crazy!

tough run, first of 2008

Ran this morning, tough to get started. My last several runs, I have felt stronger than ever. Even ran 3 miles, averaging 8.4 minutes per mile. A long ways off from running 15 miles, but getting there. Then this morning, I felt like I was running in mud. Plodded through it, but it was tough. But hey, at least my VOLS won, and the Titans made it to the playoffs! Let's GO!

ATC Resolution Run-R. Goldsmith

Ran 5K Saturday AM with Debbie and ran with Jody and Tom on New Year's Day. I seem to have running strategy Dyslexia. Ran the first mile faster than the second and the second mile faster than the third. Debbie and I had gone over to friends for New Years Eve and dinner was topped off with a super rich/sweet chocolate desert. My biggest success was not seeing this desert again during the race and my second success was shaving three minutes off my Va-Higlands 5K time to 31.36. The 30 minute mark is now within reach. Jody will be bring my T shirt to work so we can proudly display the "spoils" to our fellow teammates.

Until I see the Pacific Ocean from the Oregon Shore, there will be no Mahattans/hard liquor; no Peppermint Patties or other candy bars; no non essential breads (i.e. rolls, etc.) will be consumed at lunch or dinner. Good "training table" practices must be followed.
